Burned at the Stake
Someone asked about a previous life as a witch. She wondered why she would have chosen to suffer such a horrifying and painful death as being burned alive.
Ben: The lives we incarnate into are not just for our own spiritual growth. We choose to incarnate into certain communities in specific societies, knowing to a certain extent, the dangers and benefits associated with that society. The times in which"witch hunts," either literal or metaphorical, occur are times when new forms of knowledge are developing and there are impending shifts in the balance of power, economic as well as political.
Being born into Nazi Germany was not just about dying in concentration camps. The McCarthy era in the US was not just about being jailed and blacklisted for refusing to name names. The Jim Crow South was not just about being lynched for drinking at the wrong fountain. Being gay in the 21st century is not just about being persecuted, sometimes to death, and being allowed or not allowed to marry. All of the times when communities resort to extreme brutality and cruelty to keep their members in line are times when great changes and great progress are impending. Being caught in the backlash is always a possibility. You might not choose to be burned at the stake, but you choose to take that risk in order to help a society to move from one level of consciousness to another.

Any time a soul incarnates as an outsider, one who doesn't fit the norms of their society, the person they become is probably here to teach and to learn important lessons that will help to change the world. In 21st century America look at Gay and transgender people. Look at Autistic people and those with other neural differences. Look at fat people. Yes I said, fat people. They are the last minority that it's okay to treat abominably. Look at any rejected or persecuted minority and you will see people who have chosen to help society, and the world, raise it's vibrational frequency even if it comes at great cost to themselves. If you are a person on the fringes, one who is not fully embraced by your greater community, you are probably here on an important mission.
